Client: Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Distribution Company
Scope: Our client is a fresh fruit and vegetable chilled storage and distribution company, purchasing wholesale from abroad and distributing nationwide through the UK. They currently dispose of all end of life and off spec stock into a general waste bulker skip placed in their yard.
Period: March 2020 – June 2020
Results: Our client has a standing yard bulker that they rotate all end of life and off spec stock into, this is then taken to landfill. Client was originally spending in the region of £45k per annum on waste disposal. Proposal was to separate the food waste from non organic material being disposed of into the skip. Reducing the tonnage of general waste and proposing a more environmentally friendly solution reducing the clients cost. Cost saving per skip exchange by removing the palletised waste was in the region of £523 per exchange. The client was also keen to obtain destruction certificates providing evidence that the food had not re entered the consumer food chain.
Outcome: First collection was trialed at the beginning of March 2020 with great success, since this initial trial there have been a further nine collections of palletised stock disposed of via our AD facility, the client is very pleased with the cost savings and the greener disposal route.
