We work hard to ensure that at the end product of the anaerobic digestion process, we’re utilising the biofertiliser produced for good. This nutrient-rich by-product is a valuable addition to the land on which it’s spread.

We partner with a network of farmers, local to the areas in which our AD plants are based, to supply and spread biofertiliser. The biofertiliser helps sustain longer-term growth and yield and has a better environmental impact. 

Using biofertilisers to generate healthy soil is a benefit to farmers as people, plants and animals all depend on healthy soil. Creating healthy soil promotes good growth for plants and, in turn, is great for animal feedstock.

How do we apply biofertiliser?

Key to the spreading process is the careful application of biofertiliser through the use of a dribble bar ensures a concentrated application, directed low onto the field in a concentrated manner. 

This manner of application ensures there is minimal crop damage when spreading and this is usually distributed through umbilical pipeline spreading. Benefits of this method are;

  • Reduced amount of trucks on the road moving the biofertilser around by careful planning and working with farmers close to the locations of our AD plants and local lagoons.
  • Avoid crop damage when spreading and use umbilical pipeline spreading.
  • We ensure the dribble bar matches the field’s tramlines (25-32m) to ensure an accurate application.
  • We work with capable and efficient equipment which further improves the process, cost-effectiveness and efficiencies 
  • We also ensure best practice and match GEC (good environmental conditions) and won’t apply our biofertilsier when the weather conditions aren’t appropriate, for example during heavy rain or frozen periods.
  • We work with our farmer partners and are led by their industry expertise.

Is this a cost-effective alternative?

By using our nutrient-rich biofertiliser, rather than artificial fertiliser on the land, one farmer we work with has been able to replace 1,700 tonnes of artificial fertilisers. By removal of the synthetic nitrogen alone, it has the net positive effect of stopping 3,400,000kg of CO2e from entering the atmosphere.

With current market prices for fertilisers increasing almost on a daily basis, we’ve heard first-hand from our farming partners that not only is the use of biofertilisers a better choice for sustainable crop management and environmentally friendly, but that it is also, ultimately a cost save for their business.
